RUSSIAN ANTI-WAR ACTIVIST FACES IMMINENT DEPORTATION
Journalists invited to cover urgent human-rights case involving Putin critic held in Louisiana detention center
LOS ANGELES, CA — March 8, 2026 — Immigration and human-rights advocates are warning that Russian anti-war activist Vladislav Krasnov may be deported from the United States within days, despite new international human-rights findings supporting his case and a pending legal motion before the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Krasnov, a supporter of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, fled Russia after participating in anti-government demonstrations and publicly opposing President Vladimir Putin’s government. He was arrested in Moscow for organizing protests. He is currently detained at an ICE detention facility in Louisiana.

On March 4, 2026, the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) denied an emergency stay of removal. His legal team has since filed an Application for Administrative Stay of Removal with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in New Orleans, which remains pending.
Attorneys and human-rights advocates warn that deportation could place Krasnov at serious risk of imprisonment, persecution, or forced conscription into Russia’s military. Since Krasnov’s asylum hearing, a European Court of Human Rights ruling has specifically named him as a victim of unlawful detention by Russian authorities during a political protest. The ruling was issued while he was in U.S. immigration detention and was not considered by the immigration judge who denied his asylum claim.
“Returning a known anti-war activist to Russia under these circumstances would expose him to extraordinary danger,” said Wallie Mason, Krasnov’s US immigration attorney. “Mr. Krasnov has openly opposed the Russian government and supported democratic opposition movements. Individuals like him are routinely detained, prosecuted, and targeted for retaliation.”
Advocates are calling on Members of Congress and federal officials to intervene to halt the deportation while the legal process continues.
