The Los Angeles County Bar Association

[LACBA's Post Response]

Today, lawyers across the country are re-taking our oaths to defend the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.  At a time when our democracy and the rule of law itself are being dismantled, we must recommit ourselves to justice.

I first took the oath in Washington, DC, in 1988; I reaffirm that oath today:

I, Wallie Mason, do solemnly swear and affirm that as a member of the Bar of this Court of the District of Columbia, I will demean myself uprightly and according to law; and that I will support the Constitution of the United States of America.

And I first took this oath in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1988, and I now reaffirm:

I do solemnly swear that I will at all times demean myself fairly and honorably as an attorney and practitioner at law; that I will bear true allegiance to the State of Maryland, and support the laws and Constitution thereof, and that I will bear true allegiance to the United States, and that I will support, protect, and defend the Constitution, laws, and government thereof as the supreme law of the land; any law or ordinance of this or any state to the contrary notwithstanding. Duly sworn.

I have always taken my oath of allegiance to defend the Constitution very seriously. I reaffirm that oath today.  I will fight the tyranny that now grips our nation.  And in the words of Morrissey,

"There is no one on earth I'm afraid of, and no regime can buy or sell me...I will die with both of my hands untied."
